Larry Dean - Fudnut
At Y Theatre 2/6/22
“Well worth waiting for since 2019”
Stand up comedy is a difficult thing to review because one man’s hilarity is another’s stone face. And so it was on tonight’s visit to Leicester’s Y Theatre. The problem was with the support act, not the headliner.
Lou Conran was an unexpected support act for Larry Dean, well known for being a gay Glasgow comedian. Conran is , to be fair, an acerbic, foul mouthed, gynaecological and scatological comedian seemingly obsessed with her groin area. While I found most of her material difficult to find funny the rest of the theatre found it uproariously funny. So it must be me. Fortunately I only had to endure her for 20 minutes before we had a break.
Headliner Larry Dean, on the other hand, delivered everything I had anticipated. He was on for an hour and the first half was full of add libs and audience interaction. Very brave and very funny. He riffed on various subjects including his fairly recent new relationship with a posh lawyer, which enabled him to showcase his ear for accents.
Well worth the £13 I originally paid for a ticket way back in 2019.
