Grease

Having seen the John Travolta film of the musical I knew that seeing Grease, live on stage, would be a fun experience. But I wasn't quite prepared for the energy, spectacle and sheer exuberance of the current touring production headed by South African Craig Urbani.
Produced by Paul Nicholas and David Ian, Grease is definitely 'the word'. Slick, spectacular and so, so funny, the world of 50's teenagers has never been recreated so entertainingly. With a combination of teenage angst and almost-adult arrogance the world of seething hormones in Rydell High School is danced and sung through before your eyes.
All the hits you sang along to in the bathroom are included and the experienced cast more than does justice to a whole raft of classics. Add to this the very well designed sets, including not one, but two cars on stage, and the evening very definitely went with a bang.
The sell-out audience at DeMontfort Hall really entered into the spirit of the 50's with quite a few Pink Ladies tottering on stilettos and plumping their skirts in the gallery.
Watch the developing love affair between Danny and Sandy stumble all the way from Summer Nights to You're The One That I Want and come out into the night as a Rock And Roll Party Queen.!
Grease runs at DeMontfort Hall until 6 January 2002.
